⚠️ DATA ERASURE & SAFETY WARNING

This procedure will permanently delete ALL files, applications, accounts, and custom settings on your laptop, resetting it to its original out-of-the-box factory state. This process also clears domain-joined policies and GCDS security controls.

Back up all critical files before proceeding.

This guide outlines the step-by-step process for performing a complete factory reset on your Windows 11 laptop.

Prerequisite: Connect the laptop to a power adapter to prevent shutdown during the reset process.
  1. Access Windows Settings
Click the Start Menu and select Settings (gear icon), or press Win + I on your keyboard.
  2. Navigate to Recovery
In the left sidebar, ensure System is selected. Scroll down the right pane and click Recovery.
  3. Initiate Reset
Under Recovery options, locate Reset this PC and click the Reset PC button on the right.
  4. Choose Removal Option
When prompted to Choose an option, select Remove everything.
This ensures all local user files, corporate credentials, and domain security configurations (including GCDS controls) are completely erased.
  5. Select Reinstallation Method
Choose how you want to reinstall Windows 11:
    • Local reinstall: Faster; uses the existing local Windows installation files.
    • Cloud download: Recommended if system files are corrupted or if you need the latest Windows build directly from Microsoft.
  6. Confirm Additional Settings
On the Additional settings screen, verify your choices. Click Change settings if you need to toggle Clean data? to Yes (recommended for full drive wiping prior to device decommissioning). Click Next to proceed.
  7. Final Confirmation
Review the summary screen detailing what will be removed. When ready, click Reset. The device will restart automatically and begin the restoration process.

Verification & Next Steps

Once the process completes, the laptop will reboot to the initial Windows 11 Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) setup screen ("Select your region/country"). All domain linkages, GCDS security controls, and local profiles have been completely cleared.
